The Zoom H6studio is Zoom’s flagship handheld recorder, which went on sale at the end of August 2025. It combines a stereo XY microphone, four XLR/TRS inputs with phantom power and up to 8 simultaneous tracks in one unit. It is a versatile tool for production sound on film sets, interviews and podcasts, band rehearsals, concerts and ambient recording.
32-bit float: no more clipped audio
The recorder captures audio in 32-bit float with 132 dB of dynamic range, at sample rates up to 192 kHz. In practice that means you can record a whisper as well as a sudden shout or gunshot without clipping, then adjust levels later in post without losing quality. That is a huge advantage for documentary and run-and-gun work, where there is no second take. To learn more, read our article What is 32-bit float?
Four studio-grade preamps and a large XY mic
The four locking XLR/TRS combo inputs with +48V phantom power feature preamps with equivalent input noise (EIN) of just -127 dBu and up to +60 dB of gain. You can plug in shotgun mics, lavaliers via wireless receivers or condenser mics with ease. The built-in XY capsule with 19.4 mm diaphragms handles up to 140 dB SPL. You also get physical gain knobs, a look-ahead limiter and a 2-inch colour display. The capsule can be swapped for others from Zoom’s Capsule System 3.0, such as the SSH-6e shotgun or the EXH-6e input module.
Audio interface, timecode and power
Over USB-C the recorder works as a 6-in/2-out audio interface, so you can record a podcast or stream straight to your computer. With the optional TCA-1 adapter it generates and receives timecode, which makes syncing with cameras easier on multicam shoots. It runs on four AA batteries, which last up to around 15 hours in two-track mode, and it can also be powered over USB. Recordings go to microSD cards up to 2TB.
