The SmallHD Cine 7 is a 7-inch monitor valued in the film industry and popular with camera operators and focus pullers. It combines a clear display with practical tools for checking focus and exposure during a shoot. Its IPS touchscreen has a resolution of 1920 × 1200 pixels and a maximum brightness of 1800 nits, making the image easier to see when filming outdoors. The larger display helps you assess details that can be difficult to judge on a camera’s built-in screen. It works well both as an on-camera monitor and as part of a compact handheld monitoring setup.
Tools for checking focus and exposure
SmallHD’s PageOS interface lets you create personalised monitoring pages with different tools. You can dedicate one page to focus, another to exposure and a third to a clean image with your chosen LUT. Switching between these pages saves you from repeatedly enabling and disabling individual overlays. Focus Assist and peaking help identify sharp areas, while waveform, false colour, zebra and histogram tools support exposure assessment.
The monitor also offers a vectorscope, frame guides and anamorphic de-squeeze. These tools are useful when you need to maintain consistency between shots, check critical focus or assess an image more precisely than by its appearance on the screen alone. Support for custom LUTs lets you preview the intended look of your footage while filming, without baking that correction into the recording made internally by your camera.
HDMI, SDI and V-mount power
The monitor has an HDMI input and output, plus two 3G-SDI connectors: one dedicated input and one configurable input/output. HDMI-to-SDI and SDI-to-HDMI cross conversion makes it easier to connect equipment using different signal standards. HDMI supports input signals up to 4K/30p, although the display itself has a native resolution of 1920 × 1200 pixels. The 3G-SDI connections support signals up to 1080p60.
Our rental monitor is fitted with a V-mount battery plate and comes with two Fxlion 50 Wh batteries. This allows you to work away from mains power and keep a second battery ready for replacement. Actual battery life depends on factors such as screen brightness and battery condition. The supplied Nitze cage, SmallRig side handles and neck strap help you configure the monitor for convenient handheld use.
