Shoulder Rig Kit is a complete support package designed to turn a compact cinema camera into a more comfortable shoulder-operated rig. The system is especially well suited to Sony FX6 workflows thanks to the included D-Tap power cable, side-handle mounting socket and mini-jack control cable, while the VCT shoulder base and 15 mm rod system also provide a flexible foundation for other compatible camera builds. It is a practical choice for documentary work, events, commercials and run-and-gun productions where the operator needs to move quickly between handheld and tripod-based shooting.

The padded VCT shoulder base supports a more balanced operating position by placing the camera’s weight closer to the shoulder. A VCT-style plate also makes it possible to move quickly between shoulder operation and a compatible VCT-14 / VCT-U14 tripod adapter without rebuilding the rig. The two adjustable arms create a stable two-handed operating position, while the wooden side handle gives the operator an additional comfortable grip point when the rig is configured for Sony FX6.

15 mm rods for accessories, power and lens support

Four 15 mm rods provide front and rear mounting space for common cinema accessories. At the front, they can support equipment such as a matte box, follow focus, lens motor or the included lens support. The lens support is particularly useful with heavier lenses because it transfers part of the load away from the camera mount and helps keep the optical assembly stable during handheld operation.

At the rear, the rods support the included V-Lock battery plate. Moving the battery behind the shoulder can improve front-to-back balance while also providing a practical power source for longer shooting days. The included D-Tap to Sony FX6 power cable allows a compatible V-Mount battery to power the camera from the rear of the rig, reducing dependence on smaller internal batteries and helping keep the setup ready for extended takes.

Retain Sony FX6 side-handle control on the shoulder

The included Sony FX6 side-handle mounting socket allows the camera’s original grip to be repositioned into a more ergonomic operating position on the shoulder rig. The supplied mini-jack cable extends the FX6 grip-control connection so that the original record trigger and handle controls can remain usable after the grip has been moved away from the camera body. This is particularly useful for documentary and run-and-gun work, where the operator needs direct access to familiar controls without removing a hand from the support system.

Because the position of the shoulder pad, handles, rods, rear battery and lens accessories all affect the center of gravity, the rig should be balanced after the complete camera package has been assembled. Correct balance reduces unnecessary strain on the arms and helps make longer handheld sessions more comfortable.

Our rental set includes a VCT shoulder pad with plate, four 15 mm rods, two operating arms, a V-Lock battery plate with a dedicated 15 mm rod mount, a D-Tap to Sony FX6 power cable, a mini-jack cable for the FX6 grip connection, a wooden side handle, a Sony FX6 side-handle mounting socket and a lens support. Cameras, lenses, batteries, matte boxes and follow-focus systems can be added separately depending on the required production setup.
