Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II

Released in August 2025, the Nikon NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S II is a professional full-frame standard zoom for Nikon Z-mount cameras. It keeps the familiar 24–70mm f/2.8 range but substantially updates the first-generation S-Line lens with internal zoom, a lighter 675 g body and Nikon’s Silky Swift VCM autofocus system. The result is a versatile production lens for commercials, interviews, documentary work, events, gimbals and general-purpose cinema-style camera builds.

Internal zoom and faster SSVCM autofocus

The lens maintains a constant f/2.8 aperture throughout the zoom range and, unlike the previous version, does not extend while zooming. That fixed length helps preserve balance on gimbals and shoulder rigs, reduces the chance of the lens bumping accessories and improves resistance to dust and debris during operation. Nikon states that autofocus is approximately five times faster than on the original NIKKOR Z 24-70mm f/2.8 S, while AF tracking during zooming is improved by around 60%.

The multi-focusing system uses Silky Swift Voice Coil Motors for fast, precise and quiet focusing. Minimum focus distance is 0.24 m at 24 and 28mm, 0.27 m at 35mm, 0.30 m at 50mm and 0.33 m at 70mm, with a maximum reproduction ratio of 0.32x at the telephoto end. There is no optical VR built into the lens, so stabilization depends on the camera body, gimbal or support system.

77mm filters and production-friendly handling

The 77mm front filter thread makes it easy to use common ND, diffusion and polarizing filters without oversized adapters. The lens uses 14 elements in 10 groups, including ED and aspherical elements, with Meso Amorphous Coat and ARNEO Coat to suppress flare and ghosting. An 11-blade rounded diaphragm supports smooth background rendering, while the fluorine-coated front element is easier to clean during location work.
