Released in September 2020, the Nikon NIKKOR Z 14-24mm f/2.8 S is a professional full-frame ultra-wide zoom for Nikon Z-mount cameras. Designed for architecture, interiors, landscapes, night work, gimbal shots and wide establishing frames, it combines a constant f/2.8 aperture with a compact 650 g body. The lens covers the FX format and is part of Nikon’s S-Line, with an optical design focused on high resolution, strong edge performance and controlled flare even when shooting directly into practical lights or the sun.

The lens maintains f/2.8 throughout the 14–24mm zoom range and focuses as close as 0.28 m at every focal length. Autofocus is driven by stepping motors for smooth, quiet operation, which is especially useful for video, interviews and gimbal work where focus noise can be picked up by an on-camera microphone. Internal focusing keeps the physical balance predictable during focus changes.

There is no optical image stabilization built into the lens, so stabilization depends on the camera body, rig or gimbal. Nikon uses four ED elements, three aspherical elements, Nano Crystal Coat and ARNEO Coat to reduce chromatic aberration, ghosting and flare. A fluorine coating on the front element helps with cleaning and protection during location work.

112mm front filters and rear gel slot

Unlike many ultra-wide zooms with strongly protruding front elements, this lens was designed to support filters. With Nikon’s dedicated hood fitted, 112mm screw-in filters can be mounted at the front, while a rear slot accepts sheet-type gel filters. That makes ND, polarizing and color-control workflows easier for landscape, architecture and video production than with many conventional 14mm-class lenses.
