Stable aluminium tripod for precise photo and hybrid work

Manfrotto 290 Xtra is a versatile aluminium tripod system designed for photography, interviews, product work and other setups where precise framing matters more than fluid video movement. The three-section legs and reinforced top casting provide a rigid platform, while adjustable aluminium flip locks can be retensioned over time to maintain secure operation.

With the MH804-3W head fitted, the complete kit weighs approximately 2.52 kg and reaches a maximum height of about 171.5 cm. Minimum working height is approximately 42 cm, while maximum height with the centre column lowered is around 147.5 cm. Manfrotto currently rates the complete system for a safety payload of up to 10 kg.

MH804-3W three-way head for accurate framing

The included MH804-3W is a three-way photo head with independent controls for pan, front tilt and lateral tilt. This makes it particularly useful for architecture, product photography, portraits and carefully composed locked-off shots where small framing corrections need to be made on one axis without disturbing the others.

Front and lateral tilt both cover approximately -30° to +90°, while the head provides full 360° panoramic rotation. Retractable control levers fold away for transport, and the quick-release system uses the Manfrotto 200LT-PL plate for fast camera mounting and removal.

Four leg angles and rapid centre column

The tripod offers four selectable leg angles at approximately 25°, 46°, 66° and 88°. This allows the setup to adapt to uneven surfaces, tight interiors and lower camera positions. A rapid centre column provides additional height adjustment when fast reframing is more important than maximum rigidity.

The aluminium construction is designed for durability and repeated location use, while a rubber leg warmer improves grip when carrying or repositioning the tripod.
